UEFA does not consider two Real Madrid players to be winners of the Champions League final in the 2021/2022 season. This is the midfielder of Isco and the second goalkeeper of the club Ukrainian Andrey Lunin. In the decisive match of the tournament against the English Liverpool, these two players did not even play for the club for 1 minute and did not enter the field at all in any Champions League match. That is why, formally, they do not have the status of a winner, although both of them took part in the celebration of the triumph over the Merseysiders. We remind you that the match ended with a minimal advantage of “creamy” – the only goal in the match was scored by Vinicius Junior.
Despite this, the gold medals of the winners of the Champions League 2021/2022 will not be taken away from them. According to the rules of the tournament, the winning team receives 40 awards, without the right to make an additional number of them. The club itself distributes them at its discretion, so Real Madrid will not take them away from Isco and Lunin.
It is worth clarifying that these two players are the first candidates to leave the Madrid club this summer. Isco has already officially announced that he does not want to play for Real Madrid, and the fate of Lunin in the team is also still unknown. But several well-known European teams have already shown interest in the Ukrainian goalkeeper. We need to wait for the official decision of Real Madrid on the issue of the Ukrainian.
