Defeat with hope. The national team of Ukraine U-21 lost to Slovakia

The youth teams of Slovakia and Ukraine held the first play-off for a ticket to the European Championship, which will be held in 2023.

The Slovaks started the match aggressively, and in the fourth minute Suslov tested Trubin’s reaction. The hosts’ attacks continued, which led to trouble at the “blue-yellow” goal. Batagov in our penalty area hit the leg of an opponent who jumped out from behind, after which the referee pointed to the 11-meter mark. Suslov missed Trubin from the penalty spot, but sent the ball into the net on the rebound.

The Ukrainians immediately transferred the game to the half of the field in Slovakia, trying to quickly level the score. Especially noticeable was Sych, who was active on the right flank. Soon Kryskiv earned a free kick in front of the gates of Slovakia. The goalkeeper coped with Sudakov’s shot, but Vyunnik was accurate on finishing.

The Blue-Yellows, having equalized the result, continued to hold the initiative. Kryskiv could score, but Belko handled his shot from the center of the penalty area. But the end of the first half of the meeting remained with the Slovaks. Once again, Trubin showed his reaction, who hit the ball after another shot by Suslov.

The second half started with troubles for our team: Strelets from the goalkeeper’s corner left no chance for Trubin. Once again, the Ukrainians organized a quick response. The quick combination ended with Bondarenko’s cross and Kryskiv’s accurate shot. But after a few minutes, the “blue-yellows” again found themselves in the role of recouping. The same Sagittarius in the center of our penalty area dealt with Batagov and shot right into the corner.

Ruslan Rotan’s wards took the ball under control, trying to once again open the defense of the Slovaks. But this time the home team acted in concert, obviously playing to keep the score. The chance to snatch a draw at the end of the meeting was missed by Sikan, who struck close to the post after a cross from the corner of the penalty area.

The opponents will play the second leg on September 27.
