In England’s lower league, a goalkeeper was sent off for a fight with a fan who urinated in his water bottle.

Warrington Town goalkeeper Tony Thompson was sent off in the English non-league match against Guiseley on Saturday (0-1) for a fight with a fan who allegedly urinated in his water bottle, after which the player mistakenly drank from the bottle. The English 7th Division game was interrupted about an hour after kick-off due to a brawl – Thompson splashed the contents of a bottle on the culprit.

Today I fell out of love with this game. I’ve been called names many times, but to have someone pee in my bottle for me to drink from and then not be allowed to react because I’m a player is outrageous. This person acted abominably and put my health and the health of my family at risk,” Thompson wrote.

It was disgusting, there is no place for such things in life. I think the judge has completely lost control of the situation. If someone pees in my bottle and I drink from it, I will throw it away. To send off a player for throwing a bottle is a disgrace,” said Warrington Town coach Mark Beasley.

Subsequently, “Guiseley” issued a statement in which they condemned the actions of the fans.

“We regret the actions of the person(s) concerned and will be working with Warrington Town and the police to identify them.

If the culprits are identified, they will be banned from attending our team’s matches for life,” the club said in a statement.
