The silver medalist of the 2020 Olympic Games Anzhelika Terlyuga addressed the athletes participating in the competitions in Russia.
“Disappointed. I don’t understand why yesterday many karate athletes (whom I called “karate family”) supported me, my country, they spoke many touching words of support with tears in their eyes…. Today they are flying to Russia for a competition.
Why? Tell me why? Many of you know what kind of war it is and how painful it is.
Today you support them: people who came to our independent country, they came with rockets, bombs, tanks, an army, they kill civilians every day, even small children … They destroy our energy system. Our sports halls. Our houses. Our life.
So try to imagine for a second how to live and train in the situation I describe.
Imagine that you don’t have a mobile phone, you can’t call your family, you don’t have electricity almost all day, you can’t do your usual things, you’re afraid of every noise because you think it’s a rocket… You have to leave the closest people and somewhere to go if you want to “prepare normally” (but inside you are destroyed and stay far away)… How do you feel now?
I want to stop this war. And they will never understand that it is wrong to destroy other countries if you continue to support them. And tomorrow they will come to your house. No one knows who will be next.
Huge respect to the karatekas who did not go there. You are really strong,” Terlyuga wrote.
