During his speech at the general debate of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky presented the Ukrainian formula – five prerequisites for peace.
According to him, this formula contains the following points:
- punishment for aggression;
- protection of life;
- restoration of security and territorial integrity;
- security guarantees;
- determination to defend.
“This is a formula of crime and punishment, which is already well known to Russia. And this is the formula of justice and law and order that Russia has yet to learn. Like any other potential aggressors. What is not in our formula? Neutrality,” the head of state said.
According to him, those who speak of neutrality “when human values and peace are under attack” mean something completely different, they speak of indifference.
“Everyone for himself. Here’s what they say. They are conditionally interested in each other’s problems. They take care of each other formally. Protocol sympathize. And that’s why they pretend to protect someone, but in fact only their own narrow interests. This is what creates the conditions for war. This is what needs to be corrected in order to create conditions for peace. All that is needed is determination,” Zelenskyi said.
According to him, Russia is afraid of real negotiations and does not want to fulfill any fair international obligations.
“He lies to everyone, as is typical for aggressors. For terrorists. Even now, when Russia talks about negotiations, it only wants to slow down its retreat. Russia wants to spend the winter in the captured territory of Ukraine and prepare forces for a new offensive attempt. For new Buchs, new Raisins… Or at least to secure fortifications on captured land and military mobilization at home,” the president said.
According to Zelenskyi, Ukraine cannot agree to a postponed war, “because it will be even hotter than now.”
He emphasized that Russia should finally be recognized as a state sponsor of terrorism. “At all levels. In all countries that profess the values of peace and protection of human life. Legally. Politically,” said the President of Ukraine.
“Ukraine wants peace. Europe wants peace. The world wants peace. And we saw who is the only one who wants war. But Russia will not be able to stop the course of history. Humanity and international law are stronger than one terrorist state. Russia will have to end this war. The war she started. And I rule out that the settlement can take place on any other basis than the Ukrainian peace formula,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized.
Delegations of many countries gave Zelensky a standing ovation after his speech at the UN. The Russian delegation remained in their seats without joining in the applause.
Zelenskyi’s speech was one of the most anticipated during the regular session of the UN General Assembly, which this year is dedicated to Russia’s war against Ukraine. At last year’s General Assembly, last year in September, Zelensky compared the UN to a “retired superhero” when he called for an end to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
