Amazon introduced the Fire HD 8 2022 tablets. Four models – Fire HD 8, Fire HD 8 Plu, Fire HD 8 Kids and Fire HD 8 Kids Pro – are already on the company’s marketplace, but are currently unavailable. Fire tablets are an inexpensive alternative to the iPad and other prestigious models. All four devices will be available for pre-order in the coming days, with shipping starting next month.
According to Amazon, the new generation of Fire 8 tablets is thinner, lighter and faster than previous versions. Fire HD 8 is 30% faster than its predecessor. It provides up to 13 hours of battery life – an hour more than the previous generation of tablets. The battery of the tablet is fully charged by USB-C in 5 hours. The company also claims that the HD 8 is twice as durable as the iPad Mini in drop tests.
The older Fire HD 8 Plus model fully charges in 3 hours, supports wireless charging, is equipped with a faster processor and a better camera. That difference would only cost an extra $30 compared to the base model.
Fire HD Kids and Kids Pro come with a one-year subscription to Amazon Kids+, which includes books, apps and games. For an additional $10, Amazon sells Disney Mickey and Princess covers.
Amazon also announced that it will make Tap to Alexa available on Fire tablets. This allows customers to use Alexa with touch instead of voice, helping to improve the accessibility of features for people with disabilities.
The base Fire HD 8 costs $99, the Fire HD 8 Plus is $120, and the Fire HD 8 Kids and Fire HD 8 Kids Pro are available for $150 and $160. Unlike Apple, whose revenue depends on device sales, Amazon’s tablets are a gateway to the company’s ecosystem of services, such as the Alexa voice assistant, music, books and apps.
