Viktor Orban with a scarf depicting “Greater Hungary”
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry summoned the Hungarian ambassador and is waiting for an apology from Budapest.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine summoned the ambassador of Hungary after the scandal provoked by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. The day before, the Hungarian official posted a photo and video in which he wore a scarf to a football match with a map of the so-called “Greater Hungary” – with the territories of Ukraine and other neighboring countries. This was announced by the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oleg Nikolenko, on his Facebook page on Tuesday, November 22.
“The propaganda of revisionist ideas in Hungary does not contribute to the development of Ukrainian-Hungarian relations. The Hungarian ambassador will be invited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, who will be informed of the unacceptability of Viktor Orban’s act,” he said.
The Ukrainian agency is also waiting for an official apology from the Hungarian side and a denial of the encroachment on the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
